Germany-born forward of Ghanaian descent, Ilyas Ansah, has turned down an opportunity to play for the Black Stars at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The 21-year-old Union Berlin striker, whose parents hail from Ghana, had been reportedly closely monitored by the Ghana Football Association and coach Otto Addo in the last few months.
However, Ansah has chosen to prioritise his development within Germany’s U21 setup.
"I've decided to soak up everything I'm currently experiencing at Union and continue playing for the German U21 team. After the U21 European Championship, I'll look into it next year and make a decision. As things stand, I won't be going to the World Cup with Ghana,” Ansah explained as quoted by tribuna.com.
Ansah has already made six appearances for the German U21 side, scoring once, and his immediate focus is on solidifying his role at Union Berlin.
The striker aims to continue progressing within the German youth system before reconsidering his senior international options next year.
