Head coach of Samartex 1996, Christopher Ennin has said that tactical indiscipline was the major reason why his outfit fell short to Hohoe United in the Ghana Premier League clash on Sunday.
Hohoe United boosted their survival hopes in the Ghanaian top-flight with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Timber Giants in a highly competitive clash, held at the Hohoe Sports Stadium, courtesy of Kekeli Attor’s decisive strike early in the second half.
The first half was evenly contested, with both teams probing cautiously and struggling to create clear-cut chances.
The breakthrough arrived three minutes after the restart. A swift attacking move saw the ball worked into the path of Kekeli Attor, who kept his composure to fire past the goalkeeper in the 48th minute, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.
Samartex pushed forward in search of an equalizer, committing numbers in attack, but Hohoe defended resolutely and remained dangerous on the counter.
At the post-match conference, Christopher Ennin attributed his outfit narrow defeat to tactical indiscipline, while promising to fix the problem with immediate effect.
“It was a very good game. In matches like this, when you create chances and fail to utilize, it can come back to haunt you. I congratulate Hohoe United on their victory. Overall, it wasn’t a bad performance”
“My players were slightly tactically undisciplined. They drifted away from the game plan, and that’s something I need to address immediately,” he said.
After 24 matches, Samartex find themselves in the sixth position on the Ghana Premier League log with 36 points, while Hohoe United sit 16th spot with 27 points.
