Ghana’s senior national women’s team, the Black Queens, have been crowned champions of the 2026 Pink Ladies Cup after the tournament concluded prematurely in the United Arab Emirates.
The Black Queens secured the title following a dominant run that saw them record back-to-back 4-0 victories against Hong Kong and Russia. The clinical performances left Ghana at the top of the table with six points, eight goals scored, and a clean sheet across both fixtures.
The final scheduled match against Tanzania, which was expected to be the tournament decider, was called off by the organizers.
Following the cancellation, tournament officials visited the Black Queens at their team hotel in Sharjah on Friday to officially present the trophy and gold medals to the squad.
Coach Kim Lars Björkegren praised his side’s efficiency during the campaign, particularly highlighting the victory over Russia as one of the most complete performances during his tenure.
Players such as Doris Boaduwaa and debutant Ajegipena Zakaria were instrumental in the team's high-scoring run.
The triumph serves as a significant morale booster for the Black Queens as they shift their focus toward the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which was recently rescheduled to July 2026. The team is expected to depart the UAE at the next opportunity.
