FC Dallas youth team forward Luke Martey has shared his dream of helping the Black Starlets achieve great things after joining the team for the first time during their recent camp.
The teen sensation is one of few players born outside Ghana to participate in Dr Prosper Ogum's preparations ahead of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Martey is hoping to make the squad for the tournament, where he believes he can show his talent to the world.
“Personal objective, just go there-the AFCON-shine, do my best with the team. Getting integrated with the team and just doing great things with them, I think, that’s the most important thing for me,” Martey told Citi Sports.
The US-born winger decided to represent Ghana, the country of his parents at international level, insisting he feels blessed to play for the Black Starlets.
“It’s just an honour to represent Ghana. I think it’s because of my parents; they were both born in Accra and they left a legacy for me to pick up so I think representing the Black Starlets and Ghana itself is a blessing," he continued.
“I think that’s one of the main motivations on why I chose to represent Ghana at such a young age."
The Black Starlets qualified for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations after finishing runners-up at the WAFU Championship in Ivory Coast late last year.
