Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has urged fans and the public to respect head coach Otto Addo’s decision to omit Andre Ayew from the upcoming pre-World Cup friendlies.
Addo announced his squad on Monday, March 16, ahead of matches against Austria and Germany later this month.
Despite featuring in 10 matches and scoring once for his new club, Dutch side NAC Breda, the 36-year-old Ayew was not included in the team.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Asante Twum emphasized that squad decisions rest solely with the coach.
"Otto Addo met the Executive Council member to explain his decision to invite those players. We know why Otto Addo does not speak about players who are not in his squad because we know the bus stops with him," he said.
"It is the coach who makes the decision, and for me, Otto Addo's decision not to include Andre Ayew in the squad must be respected," Asante Twum added.
Ghana will open their friendlies on March 27 against Austria at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium before traveling to Stuttgart to face Germany on March 30.
The team will continue preparations with further fixtures against Mexico in May and Wales in early June.
