Former Ghana captain Charles Akonnor has ruled himself out of contention for the Black Stars coaching job following the dismissal of Otto Addo.
The Ghana Football Association parted ways with Addo after a poor run of results, including a 2-1 defeat to Germany, leaving the team without a head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Akonnor, who previously handled the Black Stars between 2020 and 2021, had been linked with a return. However, the 52-year-old insists he is fully focused on his current role at Gor Mahia.
"I am with Gor Mahia. I’m very happy and doing well. We are fighting for the title, and that is where my focus is," he said.
Akonnor added that while he remains committed to supporting Ghana, he has no intention of leaving his current position.
Under his guidance, Gor Mahia are currently leading the Kenyan Premier League and pushing to reclaim the title after a trophyless campaign last season.
Meanwhile, Ghana will head into the World Cup seeking a new coach, with the team drawn alongside England, Croatia and Panama in the group stage.
