Former Black Stars defender Edwin Gyimah broke down in an emotional interview as he opened up on a painful personal crisis, claiming betrayal by his own family has left him homeless and struggling to survive.
The 35-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving Sekhukhune United in 2024, appeared visibly distressed on Oyerepa FM in Kumasi, where he spoke candidly about how his life has taken a dramatic turn.
"I have been sidelined. I don’t get contracts anymore, last year I had about 21 contracts, but I couldn’t sign any. I told my family to assist me, but they didn’t. They live in an eight-bedroom apartment I built, but I don’t have a place to stay," he said.
Gyimah also revealed a troubling dispute over property involving his sister, which he says has worsened his situation.
“My sister said she would give me 50,000 Ghana cedis so I change ownership of my house from my name to hers. My sister is now accusing me of trying to sell the house and making her homeless. I’m currently homeless.”
He further alleged that his struggles date back to his playing days, claiming he faced unexplained physical challenges he believes were spiritually influenced.
“During my Black Stars days I was battling spiritual attacks. Sometimes I couldn’t feel my eyes, back pains and other issues. I heard my mother told people not to help me and that whatever I’m battling is spiritual.”
Gyimah was a regular presence in Black Stars squads between 2012 and 2016, building a reputation for strength and no-nonsense defending. He earned 10 caps for Ghana and enjoyed a solid club career in South Africa with Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United.
Once financially stable during his playing career, Gyimah now says he is struggling to support his wife and children, with his prolonged absence from football pointing to what appears to be a forced end to his career.
His emotional appeal has sparked concern across the football community, with growing calls for support for a player whose life has taken a difficult turn after years in the game.
