Ghanaian midfielder Daniel Afriyie produced a classy assist as Aarau earned a convincing 3-1 away win over Xamax in the Swiss Challenge League on Friday evening.
Aarau struck first on 11 minutes when Elias Filet opened the scoring, setting the tone for a clinical display from the visitors at Stade de la Maladière.
Xamax briefly dragged themselves level early in the second half through Koro Kone’s 50th-minute strike, but Aarau responded with real authority. Afriyie played a key role in restoring their lead, sliding a precise pass into the path of overlapping wing-back Linus Obexer, who finished calmly in the 61st minute to make it 2-1. Just four minutes later, Filet struck again to seal his brace and put Aarau firmly in control at 3-1.
Afriyie’s latest contribution continues an excellent 2025/26 league campaign, taking his Swiss Challenge League record to 11 goals and 6 assists in 31 appearances. The result strengthens Aarau’s position in the top half as they now turn their attention to their next Challenge League fixture away to Stade Nyonnais on Friday, May 8.
