Ghana Football Association (GFA) Director of IT, Francis Adu, has underscored the major transformation in the country’s football administration, revealing how digital systems have completely reshaped player registration and data management across all levels of the game.
Speaking on the GFA Podcast hosted by Patrick Akoto, the experienced IT administrator reflected on the journey from manual, paper-based registration to a fully integrated digital database system that now covers the entire football pyramid in Ghana.
According to him, the introduction of modern technology, supported by FIFA and international development partners, has ensured that no registered footballer is left outside the system.
“Every player in Ghana is captured in our database â from juvenile level to the senior ranks,” Francis Adu stated, emphasizing the scale of the digital transformation under his watch.
He explained that the current system represents a major shift from the past, when registration was limited, fragmented, and largely focused on only the top divisions of Ghanaian football.
“Earlier, the focus was mainly on the Premier League and Division One, but now it has expanded to include district-level football as well,” he added.
This expansion, according to him, is one of the most significant achievements of the GFA’s digital reforms, as it ensures that talent identification, player tracking, and administrative processes are now more transparent and efficient than ever before.
Francis Adu further highlighted that the integration of the FIFA Connect system has played a key role in this development, allowing real-time registration and global data sharing between football associations.
With the system in place, clubs are now able to register players directly from their secretariats, with information instantly feeding into a centralized database accessible to FIFA and its member associations worldwide.
The GFA IT boss noted that this innovation has not only improved efficiency but also strengthened the integrity of Ghana’s football ecosystem, reducing duplication, improving eligibility checks, and ensuring proper player documentation at every level.
Ultimately, Francis Adu’s remarks highlight how digital transformation has become a cornerstone of modern football administration in Ghana, turning what was once a paper-heavy process into a streamlined, globally connected system where every player truly counts.
