Former England international Wayne Rooney has praised Antoine Semenyo’s match-winning goal in the FA Cup final, describing the Ghanaian’s finish as worthy of deciding the famous competition.
Semenyo made history on Saturday after becoming the first Ghanaian player to score in a men’s FA Cup final, helping Manchester City secure a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.
The Black Stars forward produced the decisive moment in the 72nd minute when he met Erling Haaland’s cross with a perfect right-foot flick across Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez.

Speaking on BBC Sport after the match, Rooney praised the intelligence and composure behind the goal.
“That is some finish. It is instinctive. He knows what he is doing. It's a goal worthy of winning the FA Cup,” Rooney said.
Since joining City from Bournemouth in January, the 25-year-old has quickly become an influential figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad and continues to impress on the biggest stage.
The goal also saw Semenyo enter the history books as the first Ghanaian to score in an FA Cup final since the competition began in 1871.
Manchester City’s victory ended a run of successive FA Cup final defeats and kept alive their hopes of further domestic success heading into the closing weeks of the season.
