Former Italy striker Mario Balotelli has declared his support for Ghana at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting he is proud of his Ghanaian roots and enjoys watching the Black Stars play.
With Italy absent from the tournament, the ex-AC Milan and Manchester City forward revealed he is firmly backing Ghana to succeed at the global showpiece.
“There is no Italy in the World Cup, so I support Ghana. I am from Ghana, and I’m proud,” Balotelli said.
Meanwhile, Balotelli has singled out Manchester City attacker Antoine Semenyo as one of his favourite players in the current Black Stars squad.
“I love the players. Semenyo, I love the way he plays. I think 2010 was the best team of Ghana.” He added.
The West African football heavyweights are gearing up for the round 32 showdown against South American outfit Colombia, the Black Stars finished third in Group L to set up the much-anticipated clash, scheduled for Saturday.
Balotelli was born to Ghanaian parents before being adopted by an Italian family. Despite his Ghanaian roots, the forward opted to represent Italy at the international level.
