Former Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Kwadwo Baah-Agyemang, has urged Ghana to adopt a long-term strategy for the Black Stars following the team's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars bowed out of the tournament after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in their Round of 16 encounter, with Jhon Arias scoring the decisive goal in the first half. The defeat brought an end to Ghana's fifth appearance at the global showpiece.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Baah-Agyemang stressed that the focus should shift from seeking immediate results to building a sustainable future for the national team.
"From what we all watched, we should not aim at immediate success. I believe we should have a long-term plan for the Black Stars, and that will help the team to succeed," he said.
He added that while success remains the ultimate objective, it can only be achieved through careful planning and consistent development.
"Everyone wants to succeed, but you need to have a plan, and with the situation of the Black Stars at the moment, the team needs a long-term plan," Baah-Agyemang stated.
Despite their exit, Ghana's progression to the knockout stage marked the Black Stars' best World Cup performance since reaching the quarter-finals at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
Attention will now turn to the qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which begins later this year. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Gambia and Somalia as they seek a place at the continental championship.
