Belgium have appointed former Netherlands captain Mark van Bommel as the new head coach of the Red Devils, handing him a contract that runs through to the 2028 European Championship.
The 49-year-old replaces Rudi Garcia, who left the role after Belgium's quarter-final exit to eventual world champions Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Van Bommel will officially begin work on August 15.
The former Dutch international arrives after a successful spell with Royal Antwerp, where he guided the club to the Belgian Pro League title, Belgian Cup and Belgian Super Cup during his two seasons in charge.
"It is a great honour to become head coach of Belgium," Van Bommel said.
"Belgium has outstanding players and enormous potential. Together with my coaching staff, we want to build a team that is disciplined, ambitious and brave enough to compete with the very best."
Belgian Football Association sporting director Vincent Mannaert said Van Bommel's experience at both club and international level made him the ideal candidate to lead the national team into a new era.
Van Bommel will be assisted by Boudewijn Zenden, Maarten Martens and Reinier Robbemond, with his first competitive assignments coming in the UEFA Nations League against Italy, France and Turkey in September and October.
