Desmond Ofei assembles 31-man Black Meteors squad for Olympic qualifying preparations

The Ghana Football Association has announced head coach Desmond Ofei’s selection of a 31-man home-based squad for the Black Meteors training camp.

This specialized preparation phase serves as a crucial foundational step for the national under-23 team as they gear up for the highly competitive Olympic qualification rounds.

The call-up features an impressive mix of domestic talent drawn heavily from the Ghana Premier League and lower-tier divisions.

In the goalkeeping department, Daniel Afful of Accra Lions FC and Dreams FC’s Gidios Aseako lead the four-man list.

The defensive unit consists of ten reliable figures, including Medeama SC’s Paul Yeboah and Gold Stars SC’s Samuel Achampong, who are expected to bring physical presence and tactical discipline to the backline.

A dynamic eight-man midfield has been constructed to anchor the team's transition play, headlined by emerging stars like George Paako of Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Vision FC’s playmaker Sowa Adjetey.

In attack, Ofei has selected nine forwards capable of delivering explosive offensive output. This frontline boasts dangerous wingers and clinical central strikers, including Clinton Kumi of FC Samartex 1966 and Asante Kotoko SC's standout attacker Peter Amidu Acquah.

The invited players are expected to report to camp immediately on Wednesday to begin intensive training sessions.

Ofei’s primary objective during this camping period is to assess player fitness, build squad chemistry, and establish a firm tactical identity capable of securing Ghana's qualification spot.
