Ghana defender Gideon Mensah made his unofficial debut for FC Koln on Saturday, featuring in the Bundesliga side's friendly against Real Sociedad.
The 28-year-old left-back, who joined Koln on a free transfer from French side Auxerre earlier this summer, played as the German club secured a 2-1 victory over the Spanish opponents.
Mensah signed a contract with Koln until June 2028, ending his four-year spell at Auxerre, where he made 114 appearances, including 85 in Ligue 1.
The move places Mensah into a select group, becoming only the fifth Ghanaian to represent Köln in the club's history, following in the footsteps of Anthony Baffoe, Edward Sarpei, Derek Boateng and Kingsley Schindler.
The defender arrives in Germany fresh from an impressive World Cup campaign with Ghana, where he played every minute of all four Black Stars matches in North America. He has been a regular member of the national team since making his debut in 2019, earning 44 caps.
After the World Cup, Mensah had several options but chose Köln after positive discussions with club officials. He will wear the number 14 jersey for his new club.
The friendly against Real Sociedad provided an opportunity for Mensah to get his first minutes in a Koln shirt as the club continues preparations for the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign.
