Alexander Djiku has returned to the Black Stars squad after missing Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign through injury.
The Spartak Moscow defender has been included in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, as well as the international friendly against Morocco.
Djiku missed the World Cup after suffering an injury in Spartak Moscow’s Russian Cup final, but has since regained his fitness and established himself as a regular in the club’s starting lineup.
The 32-year-old has completed three consecutive 90-minute appearances for Spartak in the Russian Premier League, including Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Fakel Voronezh. He recorded 110 touches, made 10 recoveries and won three duels during the game.
His return comes at an important time for Ghana, with Queiroz looking to strengthen his defensive options for the start of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
Djiku was a regular for the Black Stars before his injury and has earned 38 caps for Ghana.
He will now be available for Ghana’s opening qualifier against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, before the Black Stars host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
Ghana will then face Morocco in an international friendly in Tangier on October 4.
