Eric Tinkler backs Asante Kotoko squad depth to cover injury absences

Asante Kotoko coach Eric Tinkler believes the club has enough squad depth to cope with the absence of several players ahead of their Ghana Premier League clash with FC Samartex 1996.

Kotoko travel to the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Sunday with concerns over the availability of several players.

Philip Amoh suffered a broken leg in the club’s previous match, while Hillary picked up a knock and will miss the trip.

Forward Dogo Yakubu is also expected to remain sidelined for at least another week, further reducing Tinkler’s options.

Despite those setbacks, the Kotoko coach remains confident that other members of the squad can step up when required.

“Yeah, we've got enough players in our squad and enough depth for players to stand up and respond,” Tinkler said.

Tinkler confirmed that Afor has returned from injury and is available for selection, giving the Porcupine Warriors another option ahead of the difficult away fixture.

The coach also expressed his disappointment over Yokubu’s absence, particularly after the player scored away from home in an earlier match.

“Yakubu, he'll still be out for at least another week. You know, we would have loved to have had him. He scored a nice goal away from home,” he said.

Kotoko face a Samartex side that has won both of its opening league matches and is unbeaten in its last four home games.

The Porcupine Warriors, meanwhile, have won their opening home fixture but have managed just one victory in their last 10 away league matches.
