New York Red Bulls midfielder Ronald Donkor has arrived in Ghana ahead of the Black Stars’ preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this month.
The 21-year-old earns his first senior call-up following an impressive campaign in Major League Soccer, where he has emerged as one of the standout young Ghanaian players abroad.
Donkor has enjoyed an outstanding season with New York Red Bulls, scoring two goals and providing four assists in 23 league appearances, performances that caught the attention of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Rewarding his consistency and influence at club level, Queiroz included the midfielder in his 24-man squad for the upcoming international assignments, offering the former Ghana youth international an opportunity to make his mark on the senior stage.
The talented midfielder has now linked up with his teammates in Ghana as preparations intensify for the crucial AFCON qualifying campaign.
Ghana will begin their quest for a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with a challenging away fixture against neighbours Ivory Coast on September 24 before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
Following the qualifiers, the Black Stars are also scheduled to face Morocco in an international friendly on October 4 as Queiroz continues to build and assess his squad ahead of future assignments.
After missing out on the previous edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the Black Stars will be determined to secure qualification for the next tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.
Donkor’s inclusion adds fresh energy and creativity to Ghana’s midfield options, with supporters eager to see whether the promising MLS star can translate his club form onto the international stage.
