The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has signed a GH¢27.5 million agreement with the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) to undertake geological investigations in three mineralised areas – Funsi, Atuna and Bensere East – in a move aimed at strengthening data-driven mining in Ghana.
The agreement, signed earlier yesterday, forms the first phase of a broader initiative to generate credible geological data that will support the establishment of model mining operations in the country.

Officials at the signing ceremony described the collaboration as a significant step toward promoting responsible mining practices while improving the quality of geological information available to guide mineral development.
Under the agreement, the GGSA will undertake geological investigation services over a four-month period, focusing on the three blocked-out mineralised zones located in Funsi, Atuna, and Bensere East.
The areas form part of 20 mineralised blocks that were earlier released to the GoldBod by the Minerals Commission of Ghana for further geological assessment and potential development.
Officials explained that the project is expected to generate reliable geological datasets that will guide the establishment of structured mining operations, particularly in areas with significant gold potential.
According to GoldBod, initiatives such as the partnership with the GGSA reflect the Board’s commitment to supporting sustainable mining practices while ensuring that Ghana maximises its gold output for national development.
The project is also expected to strengthen the country’s mineral resource data systems and support policy decisions aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in the mining sector.
