Former Athletic Club forward Raúl García has commented on Iñaki Williams' performances with the Ghana national team, acknowledging that the striker has yet to meet expectations.
Williams, 30, decided to represent Ghana despite being born and raised in Spain, making his debut for the Black Stars in a friendly against Brazil in September 2022.
Since then, he has made 17 appearances for Ghana, scoring just one goal—far below the high standards he has maintained at Athletic Bilbao.
At Bilbao, Williams has been a standout player, contributing significantly to the team’s Copa del Rey victory—their first in 40 years—and helping secure two Spanish Super Cups.
García in an interview told La Liga press about how Inaki Williams struggles to live up to expectations
It’s true that he hasn’t reached the desired performance levels when playing for Ghana
However, this isn’t an excuse. Travelling long distances for international matches can affect a player’s performance. That said, he is committed to doing things the right way and fully dedicated to being part of the team.
Iñaki Williams' stats for Bilbao and future goals
Iñaki Williams has continued his impressive form for Athletic Club this season, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 18 La Liga matches, with the team comfortably sitting in fourth place.
In European competition, Williams has played six matches and scored four goals. Playing alongside his brother has been an incredible experience for him, with both contributing significantly in important games.
With the Black Stars, Inaki will be hoping to find his goal-scoring feet as the Black prepare to continue their World Cup qualifiers journey in March 2025 after failing qualify the Black Stars to the AFCON 2025.
