Everybody sees direction of the results due to abysmal performance of Akufo-Addo – Mahama

Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has said that the direction of the election results is obvious to many people although counting is yet to start.

In his view, Ghanaians are fed up with the “abysmal performance” of the Akufo-Addo administration hence their resolve to vote for change.

“Everybody sees the direction of the results because of the abysmal performance of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration,” he told journalists after casting his ballot in Bole during the Saturday, December 7 polls.

Prior to his comments, his spokesperson, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, had accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of attempting to rig the general elections.

She stated that there have been several attempts to intimidate voters to deter them from casting their ballots. This, in her view, smacks of an attempt to cheat in the elections.

Speaking to Journalists on Saturday, December 7, she said “There have been various attempts and plots to rig the elections, it is apparent to all of us. we talk about rigging as if it is only when you go to the ballot box and there is ballot stuffing, reprinting of fake papers, any attempt to intimidate or create fear and panic are all attempts to suppress the voter.”

Voting started around the country at 7AM . Polls will close at 5PM.

On Friday, December 6, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to vote in peace and in dignity.

He also urged all to cooperate with the Electoral Commission (EC) and the security agencies to ensure an incident-free election.

In his address to the nation on Friday, December 6, he said “The flame of freedom needs to be protected and constantly refuelled.

“Ghana is known to be the beacon of democracy on the African continent,  we should be justly proud of this and do everything we can to protect this.”

He added that “cooperate with the Electoral Commission and the security agencies.  Cast your ballot in peace and dignity, tolerance and mutual respect. We have a reputation to maintain as a nation of peaceful elections.”
