Everton have parted ways with Sean Dyche, ending his tenure just shy of two years at Goodison Park.
The announcement came mere hours before Everton’s FA Cup third-round clash with Peterborough, with club stalwarts Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman stepping in as interim coaches.
Dyche, 53, leaves with Everton languishing in 16th place in the Premier League, only one point clear of relegation. A dismal 1-0 loss to Bournemouth, marked by Everton failing to register a shot on target, capped a season of frustration, with the Toffees winning just three of their 19 league matches.
Dyche’s tenure began in January 2023 as he replaced Frank Lampard to rescue the club from relegation. Though he achieved survival in his first season and navigated Everton through an eight-point deduction to a 15th-place finish in 2023-24, his side struggled offensively, scoring just 15 goals this season.
The decision to sack Dyche follows a review by new owners, the Friedkin Group, who completed their £400m takeover last month. With Everton set to move to Bramley-Moore Dock next season, the focus now shifts to finding a long-term solution to steer the club forward.
Assistant coaches Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard, and Billy Mercer have also departed alongside Dyche.
