Francis Amuzu made an immediate impact after the interval, breaking the deadlock with a composed right-footed finish in the 46th minute to propel Gremio to a dominant 4-0 victory over Avenida in the Gaucho Round 1 clash at Estádio dos Eucaliptos.
Amuzu's opening goal, assisted by Tiago's perfectly-timed delivery, changed the momentum of the match. The left winger had tested Avenida's resolve throughout the first half with dangerous attacking runs, including a close-range effort in the 34th minute that narrowly missed. His clinical finishing when it mattered most proved the catalyst for Gremio's devastating second-half performance.
Following his crucial opener, the floodgates opened. Wagner Leonardo doubled the advantage just three minutes later before Roger extended Gremio's lead further in the 54th minute. Arthur completed the rout with a spectacular effort from distance in the 72nd minute.
Though substituted in the 57th minute with his work complete, Amuzu's performance underscored Gremio's attacking prowess. His intelligent movement and precise finishing demonstrated why the visitors proved far too clinical for their opponents.
Gremio will play EC Sao Jose in their next game on January 15th.
