Accra Lions Football Club have confirmed a new chapter in their technical leadership, appointing 38-year-old Richard Afoakwa as Head Coach for the remainder of the 2025â26 season.
Afoakwa steps up from his previous role as Assistant Coach, reflecting the club’s belief in continuity and internal development.
He will be supported on the touchline by Johannes Pieper, who remains an important figure in the technical setup as the team chases its ambitions in Ghana’s Division One League. The reshuffle is designed to keep the existing structure stable while giving Afoakwa the authority to stamp his ideas and personality on the squad.
Former First Team Head Coach James Francis is moving into a strategic role at the heart of the club’s future. He will now take full charge of the Academy, overseeing its technical operations and ensuring a clear pathway for young talents aiming to graduate to the senior side.
Accra Lions have also confirmed that all remaining backroom staff will stay in their current positions. Their experience and daily work on fitness, analysis and logistics are seen as crucial to implementing the club’s long-term football philosophy.
The announcement, shared across the club’s official platforms with the hashtags #yennyinaadea and #accralions, has been warmly received by supporters celebrating Afoakwa’s promotion and the club’s commitment to building from within.
