Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has set his sights on securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, placing that objective ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana will feature at a second consecutive WAFCON, with the tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco in March.
The Black Queens, who claimed bronze at the 2025 edition, have been drawn in Group D alongside Mali, Cape Verde and Cameroon.
With less than two months to the start of the competition, the Swedish tactician has called for an intensive preparation programme, stressing that World Cup qualification remains the team’s primary goal.
"From now on, we can start planning for it and make the best possible preparation to achieve a good result," Lars Björkegren said.
"For me, and I think for all of us, it's a clear target to make the top four, to make the World Cup. That's going to be very, very important. We have to go for that. If we make the top four, then to push for the gold," he added.
Under the tournament format, the top two teams in each group will advance automatically to the quarterfinals, with the four semifinalists booking places at the global showpiece.
