German-born Ghanaian midfielder Kofi Amoako was a standout performer as SG Dynamo Dresden fought back to secure a hard-earned 2-1 derby victory over 1. FC Magdeburg in Matchday 19 of the 2. Bundesliga on Saturday night.
Playing in front of a sold-out Avnet Arena with 27,815 spectators, Amoako played a decisive role in turning the game around after Magdeburg had taken a 29th-minute lead through Mateusz Zukowski.
The 20-year-old midfielder showed great composure and awareness to restore parity for the visitors just five minutes later.
Following a Dynamo corner, the ball dropped invitingly at Amoako’s feet. His first thunderous effort crashed off the crossbar, but the rebound fell kindly back to him.
Amoako reacted quickest, rifling the ball into the net on the second attempt to make it 1-1 in the 34th minute.
The goal was historic, as it marked Dynamo's 100th goal in the 2. Bundesliga, further underlining the significance of the Ghana-eligible midfielder’s contribution.
Amoako was again involved moments before the break when Dynamo struck the decisive blow.
From a set-piece situation, he delivered a dangerous ball towards the far post, where Thomas Keller applied the finishing touch to put Dresden ahead just before halftime.
Dynamo went on to defend resolutely in the second half, with goalkeeper Tim Schreiber producing a series of fine saves to preserve the lead.
The victory keeps Dynamo firmly in the promotion and survival conversation, with Amoako’s growing influence continuing to attract attention.
