FC Samartex 1996 suspended Eric Kwabena Bekoe for two weeks and imposed a salary cut following a disciplinary process that found the former Ghana Premier League top scorer guilty of insubordination.
The club initially handed Bekoe an indefinite suspension but later reviewed the decision after a disciplinary hearing, reducing the sanction to a two-week suspension alongside a financial penalty. While Samartex did not publicly outline the full reasons at the time, details have since emerged regarding the sequence of events that led to the action.
According to reports, Bekoe was granted permission to leave the camp at 11:30 a.m. for one hour to visit a friend. However, he returned at 8:00 p.m., missing the team’s scheduled video analysis session. The breach of camp protocol reportedly led to his exclusion from the technical bench on matchday.
Bekoe defended his actions by stating that he had gone to watch a Division Two League match to scout potential players for the club, insisting that he intended to serve Samartex’s sporting interests.
The situation was further compounded when Bekoe failed to attend a technical meeting on Monday without prior approval. Although he sent a message to the technical team’s WhatsApp group, the club considered the action unauthorised absenteeism.
FC Samartex have since reiterated the need for discipline, professionalism, and adherence to internal procedures, maintaining that the sanctions were necessary to uphold standards within the club.
