Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that the Ministry of Sports fully approved the recent expansion of the Black Stars’ technical team.
On January 6, the GFA announced several new appointments, including Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Björkegren as assistant coaches, José Daniel MartÃnez Alfonso as scout and video analyst, Carlos Lozano Romero as team physiotherapist, and Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi as performance coach.
These moves are part of the association’s efforts to bolster the national team’s support staff ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Asante Twum rejected claims of any disagreement with the Sports Ministry regarding the new hires, emphasizing that the appointments were made in close consultation with the ministry.
“When we discussed this strategy [of appointing more Black Stars technical staff] with the Sports Ministry, they were on board and had no problems with it,” he said.
Ghana, drawn in Group L for the World Cup, will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude their group-stage matches against Croatia on June 26, 2026.
