Ghana’s push to revitalise sports financing gathered momentum in Parliament after Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams pledged two months of his salary to the Ghana Sports Fund, while the Majority Front Bench collectively committed one month of their earnings to the same cause.
Addressing the House on Thursday, Adams argued that a structured and well resourced fund could significantly boost the sector’s contribution to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product.
He commended the National Investment Bank for setting the pace with a donation of 100,000 Ghana Cedis, describing it as a timely intervention.
The Minister then raised the stakes with a personal commitment. “I will donate two months of my salary to the Ghana Sports Fund effective February 2026â¦If we expect the private sector to invest, if we expect (Sports) Federations to reform, if we expect young athletes to commit, then leadership must also commit,” he stated.
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga followed with an announcement that members of the Majority Front Bench and some ministers would each donate one month of their salaries.
The Majority Chief Whip went further, pledging three months’ salary, signalling what many hope will spark broader corporate and public support for Ghana sports.
