Austria head coach Ralf Rangnick has unveiled a 26-man squad for high-profile international friendlies against Ghana and South Korea, signaling the start of the nation’s intensive preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The squad, which features a strategic blend of veteran leadership and dual-national reinforcements, will first face Ghana’s Black Stars at the Ernst Happel Stadium on Friday, March 27.
Danso, who has Ghanaian descent, is expected to anchor the backline alongside captain David Alaba, forming a defensive partnership that Ralf Rangnick views as critical for Austria’s upcoming Group J campaign against Argentina, Algeria, and Jordan.
The squad announcement also grabbed headlines for the inclusion of two marquee newcomers: Carney Chukwuemeka and Paul Wanner. Both players recently completed their international allegiance switches from England and Germany, respectively, and are poised to make their senior debuts.
They join a midfield engine room already boasting the experience of Marcel Sabitzer and Konrad Laimer, providing Austria with unprecedented depth.
With 12 players in the squad currently playing in the German Bundesliga, the familiarity within the group remains high.
