Danish-Ghanaian midfielder Nikolas Nartey faces an important summer at VfB Stuttgart, with his contract set to expire and his long-term future at the club still undecided.
Talks over an extension are already underway, but no agreement has been reached yet.
The 26-year-old midfielder only signed a heavily performance-based one-year deal last summer, reflecting his injury-hit 2023/24 season in which he played just 21 minutes. This campaign has changed the picture for Nartey.
He has stayed fit, delivered consistently solid performances and gradually worked his way into a more prominent role in Stuttgart’s midfield. That development has strengthened his position at the negotiating table, with his camp reportedly pushing for a higher salary in any new deal.
Head coach Sebastian Hoeneà has made clear he wants Nartey to stay. “I think very highly of Niko. He's consistent and has shown what he's capable of over several games. That's a great story”, he said, adding that he is hoping for an agreement between club and player.
However, there is still a gap between the parties’ financial expectations, meaning intensive talks will be needed in the coming weeks.
