Ghana forward Jordan Ayew has described the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup meeting with England as a “special game” as the Black Stars prepare for their Group L campaign at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Ghana are set for their fifth World Cup appearance, having featured in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022. Their best showing remains the 2010 tournament in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals, the furthest an African side has gone alongside Senegal’s 2002 run.
Ayew, speaking ahead of the England clash, reflected on his long spell in English football and the personal meaning attached to the fixture.
“It's going to be a special game. I’ve been there for 10 years; it’s like my third home because France is my second home,” he told FIFA.
He added that his experiences in England have shaped him both on and off the pitch, while insisting Ghana must rise to the occasion against elite opposition.
“We have to prove ourselves and we have to show that we have quality, and we have to be ready for the challenge,” Ayew stated.
Ghana will also face Croatia and Panama in the group, with the Black Stars targeting a return to the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
