Heart of Lions assistant coach Daniel Nii Adjei insists Nations FC will be highly motivated to make an impact in Africa despite competing in the Division One League.
Nations FC will represent Ghana in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after securing a historic MTN FA Cup triumph last season, despite suffering relegation from the Ghana Premier League.
The Kumasi-based club became the first relegated Ghanaian side in 34 years to win the FA Cup, earning a place in Africa’s second-tier club competition in the process.
Their unusual situation has raised questions about whether competing in the lower division could affect their preparations for continental football, but Nii Adjei believes the club is determined to succeed.
Speaking on Max FM, the former TP Mazembe midfielder said Nations FC are already making preparations for their continental campaign.
"Nations FC are very motivated to achieve something in Africa, even though they are now playing in Division One. It doesn’t mean they lack motivation."
Nii Adjei also revealed that Heart of Lions recently faced Nations FC in a friendly and was impressed by the squad assembled by the FA Cup winners.
"We [Heart of Lions] played a friendly against them a while ago, and they had a lot of foreign players. They are preparing for it."
Nations FC have been drawn against Malian side FC Diarra in the first preliminary round, with the first leg scheduled for September 4-6 and the return between September 11-13.
If they progress, Nations FC will face either AS Zam of Niger or ASKO de Kara of Togo.
