Coach Nana Agyemang has revealed that he discovered Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi as a 12-year-old, and has backed the shot-stopper to one day become Ghana's first-choice goalkeeper.
The former Vision FC head coach, who worked as technical director at Lizzy Sports Complex, recalled spotting Agbasi's talent at a young age and beginning his training there.
"I discovered Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi when he was just 12 years old and began training him at the Lizzy Sports Complex during my time as technical director," Agyemang told Mohammed Shaban.
"He is a very talented goalkeeper, and I won't be surprised if he becomes the Black Stars' first-choice goalkeeper one day."
Agbasi has been in impressive form for Hearts of Oak this season, establishing himself as one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in the Ghana Premier League. His performances earned him recognition from the Black Stars setup, as he was considered to travel with the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the 27th player â travelling with the squad to train with the goalkeepers even though he did not make the final 26-man cut.
The experience, though short of a full selection, speaks to the promise Agyemang saw in him years ago.
With the Black Stars currently having competition for the number one spot, Agbasi will be looking to continue his development and push for a place in the national team setup in the coming years.
For now, his childhood mentor's words serve as both a testament to his ability and a challenge to fulfil that potential.
