President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghana’s football authorities to begin preparations immediately for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, insisting that early planning will be crucial to building on the Black Stars’ progress.
Speaking during an official inspection tour of the Ho Sports Stadium, Mahama praised the senior national team’s performance at the 2026 World Cup and urged stakeholders to maintain the momentum by developing a long-term strategy ahead of the next global tournament.
The President believes continuity within the team, coupled with proper planning, could give Ghana a stronger chance of competing for major honours at the next Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup.
“We need to start preparing for the next World Cup. The Black Stars did well; nobody gave them a chance. People predicted they would crash out in the group stage, but they managed to reach the Round of 32.”
"I'm sure that if we keep this team, and we persuade the coach [Carlos Queiroz] to continue to work with the team, by the time of the next AFCON and the next World Cup, we'll have a team that can claim the championship in either of those two competitions."
The Black Stars entered the 2026 World Cup with limited expectations but progressed to the newly introduced Round of 32 knockout stage under Queiroz’s guidance.
Ghana opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama before securing a goalless draw against England, extending their impressive record in second group matches at the World Cup.
After qualifying for the knockout phase, the Black Stars suffered a narrow defeat to Croatia in their final group game before their campaign ended with elimination against Colombia in the Round of 32.
