Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin is on the verge of completing his move to Girona after arriving in the city and successfully undergoing his medical with the Spanish club.
The 28-year-old centre-back is expected to sign his contract in the coming hours, barring any last-minute issues.
Mumin will join Girona as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Rayo Vallecano. He moved to Rayo in 2022 from Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães in a deal reportedly worth around â¬1.5 million.
Mumin looking to return to his best
The move presents Mumin with an opportunity to rebuild his career after a serious knee injury disrupted his progress.
The Ghana international suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in March 2025, ruling him out for close to a year.
He eventually returned to action with Rayo last season, making three appearances and playing 78 minutes in total, including one start.
Despite his limited playing time, his return was enough to put him back in contention for the Ghana national team.
World Cup experience
Mumin was included in Ghana's squad for the most recent World Cup but did not feature during the tournament.
He will now begin a new chapter with Girona, who are looking to strengthen their central defensive options with his experience, physical presence and ability to play at the back.
For Mumin, the move offers another chance to establish himself at the highest level in Spanish football after his progress was interrupted by injury.
Unless there is a late change, Girona are expected to officially announce Mumin as their latest signing soon.
