Nathan Opoku believes he is entering his new chapter at Northampton Town in good shape after enjoying a productive pre-season with Leicester City’s first-team squad.
The Ghanaian striker completed his move to Northampton from Leicester on a three-year deal after impressing during preparations for the new campaign.
Opoku says his involvement with Leicester’s senior team has left him physically prepared and confident ahead of his latest challenge in League Two.
“Pre-season has been good at Leicester, I have been with the first team squad and got some minutes, I got on the scoresheet too and I am fit and ready to play my part.”
The 25-year-old’s pre-season involvement came despite his eventual departure from Leicester, with the forward determined to use the momentum he built during the summer at his new club.
Opoku’s arrival gives Northampton another attacking option, with his ability to play across the forward line adding versatility to the squad.
He also heads into the move with competitive experience from his time at Newport County, where he scored six goals in 16 starts during the 2025/26 season.
That spell helped him adapt to the demands of English football, while his recent work with Leicester’s first team has provided further preparation.
Opoku will now look to translate that fitness and confidence into performances for Northampton as he seeks to make an immediate impact.
