Mr Yakubu Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South East has launched a comprehensive free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal exercise to enhance healthcare delivery in the area.
The initiative, which has a target of 10,000 constituents and being undertaken in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), aims to ensure that vulnerable residents, including those with expired NHIS cards, can access quality healthcare without financial barriers.
The programme covers first-time registrations and renewals, restoring access to essential health services for thousands. Mr Mohammed emphasized that access to healthcare is a fundamental right adding that the initiative removes financial obstacles that prevent the people from seeking medical care when they need it most.
He disclosed that the exercise is expected to benefit children, the elderly, pregnant women, persons with disabilities and low-income earners. The MP expressed the hope that the exercise would reduce out-of-pocket health expenses and encourage reliance on formal healthcare facilities.
Mr. Mohammed called on eligible constituents to participate fully, reaffirming his commitment to improving living standards. The Healthcare providers described the initiative as a timely intervention aligning with national efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Residents expressed gratitude to Mr. Mohammed, citing his responsive and people-centered leadership.
