THE Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, on Tuesday, commissioned a new Regional Police Headquarters for the Upper West Region (UWR) in Wa, stressing that it represented a renewed national commitment to safety, stability and resilience.
According to him, the edifice symbolises discipline, leadership, sacrifice and continuity in Ghana’s security architecture, marking a new chapter in policing for the region.

He noted that the headquarters stands as evidence of collective effort, shaped by successive administrations, guided by police leadership and completed through the shared determination of government, the Ghana Police Service and the people of the Upper West Region.
The Interior Minister explained that security infrastructure remains a priceless asset upon which development thrives and public confidence grows.
He pointed out that the headquarters forms part of deliberate and structured investments by government to strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana Police Service, ranging from logistics and mobility to communication systems and specialised units.
The modern office complex, he mentioned, demonstrates government’s recognition that national security is a priority rather than a convenience.
Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak further revealed that the commissioning of the headquarters aligns with a broader programme to improve accommodation and working conditions for police personnel nationwide.
He, therefore, called on officers posted to the facility to maintain and safeguard the building, vehicles and equipment, describing responsible resource management as essential to sustaining the gains made.
He described police officers as the invisible line between order and chaos, urging residents to see them not as adversaries but as partners and members of the same communities.
According to him, the new central command structure housing administrative offices, investigative units, specialised desks and operational centres will enhance rapid response, crime management, inter-agency coordination and people-centred policing across the region.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing, underscored that the facility provides confidence and assurance that the safety of residents remains a national priority.
He noted that the headquarters positions the region to better confront emerging security challenges, including cross-border crimes and urban-related threats.
The minister maintained that the building must be matched with capable, disciplined and responsive officers.
He described the headquarters as a fortress of hope, professionalism and dedication to national service for the Upper West Region and Ghana at large.
