Morocco midfielder Brahim Diaz says the Atlas Lions are confident they can overcome France and book a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Real Madrid star believes Morocco have earned their place among the tournament's top teams after reaching the last eight and insists they are capable of eliminating one of the favourites.
"We're coming up against one of the favourites, but we're here because we can compete with France and we're among the contenders too," Diaz said ahead of Friday's quarter-final.
"We want to win. We'll give it everything we've got and perform to our best."
Morocco booked their place in the quarter-finals after a 3-0 victory over Canada in the Round of 16, having earlier edged the Netherlands on penalties.
The Atlas Lions will be without Bayern Munich forward Ismael Saibari through injury, leaving Diaz with greater attacking responsibility. However, the 26-year-old says he embraces the pressure.
"I always take responsibility. I thrive on pressure. These are the matches every player wants to be involved in, and I'm ready."
Diaz is set to face Real Madrid teammates Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni but says friendships will be put aside.
"They're extraordinary players and wonderful people. Tomorrow, however, we'll be opponents, and we all want to win."
Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi believes the team's unity has been key to their impressive World Cup run.
"Our team spirit is incredible. I feel that's what makes all the difference in difficult moments," he said.
Diaz also praised captain Achraf Hakimi, describing the Paris Saint-Germain defender as "the best right-back in the world."
Morocco are aiming to reach a second successive FIFA World Cup semi-final after their historic run at the 2022 tournament.
