Ghana legend Michael Essien has sent a touching good luck message to rising star Caleb Yirenkyi following the young midfielder's move to Premier League newcomers Coventry City.
In a post on social media, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid star offered words of encouragement and wisdom to the 20-year-old as he embarks on his journey in English football.
"Your hard work, dedication, attitude and willingness to learn will continue to push you to greater heights," Essien wrote.
"Stay humble, discipline, respectful and keep working hard. Wishing you all the best."
Essien, who won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League during his illustrious career at Chelsea, knows exactly what it takes to succeed in English football.
His message to Yirenkyi carries significant weight, coming from one of Ghana's most decorated footballers.
The 43-year-old, who earned 58 caps for Ghana and represented the Black Stars at the 2006 and 2014 World Cups, has previously spoken about the importance of mentorship for young Ghanaian players. His message to Yirenkyi reflects his commitment to guiding the next generation.
Yirenkyi became a household name in Ghana following his dramatic stoppage-time winner against Panama at the 2026 World Cup, which made him the Black Stars' youngest-ever goalscorer in tournament history.
His performances in North America attracted interest from several top European clubs, but a conversation with Coventry head coach Frank Lampard convinced him to join the Sky Blues.
The midfielder has already begun pre-season training with Coventry alongside his Ghanaian teammate Brandon Thomas-Asante, with the duo expected to form a formidable Ghanaian connection in England's top flight.
