Ghana international Daniel Kofi-Kyereh has taken a significant step in his comeback by joining his new teammates in training at VfL Osnabrück, just days after completing his move to the German second-tier side.
The 30-year-old attacking midfielder signed as a free agent earlier this week following his departure from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg, where a devastating ACL injury and subsequent setbacks had severely limited his playing time.
Kyereh’s move to Osnabrück reunites him with head coach Timo Schultz, under whom he enjoyed the most productive spell of his career at FC St Pauli.
During the 2021-2022 season, he registered 12 goals and 10 assists, form that earned him a move to Freiburg and cemented his place in the Black Stars setup.
Kyereh, who has 18 caps for Ghana and was part of the Black Stars’ 2022 World Cup squad, has faced a long road back to fitness.
After only seven appearances for Freiburg II last season, he is now focused on rebuilding his career with the Purple-Whites.
Osnabruck, who returned to the 2. Bundesliga after topping the 3. Liga last season, put on a strong performance in their opening match, scoring three goals away at Heidenheim in a 4-3 defeat. With Kyereh now in training, he could be in contention for selection as the club looks to build on their promising start.
For the Ghanaian midfielder, this new chapter represents an opportunity to put his injury nightmare behind him and rediscover the form that once made him one of the most exciting players in the German second tier.
