Asante Kotoko's defensive rebuild is gathering pace, with centre-back Issah Yakubu featuring for the Porcupine Warriors in a friendly match on Thursday after successfully completing his medical examinations.
The defender took to the pitch in the pre-season friendly, providing an early opportunity to integrate with his potential new teammates as his move to the Kumasi-based giants edges closer to completion.
Yakubu's impending arrival continues Kotoko's efforts to bolster their defensive options for the upcoming season.
The centre-back was included in Asante Kotoko's travelling squad for their pre-season tour of Accra, alongside other defenders such as Ali Umar, Hamzata Musah, Emmanuel Kotei, Joseph Amoah, Abu Adams, Patrick Asiedu, and Koffi Marius Ange Bini.
With medicals now completed and a friendly appearance under his belt, Yakubu's permanent move to Asante Kotoko is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
The Porcupine Warriors are aiming to strengthen their squad under head coach Eric Tinkler as they prepare for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
Kotoko have already been active in the transfer market, bringing in Tinkler as head coach while also negotiating the return of goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim. The addition of Yakubu would further strengthen their defensive options as they look to bounce back from a disappointing campaign last season.
Further confirmation of the permanent move is anticipated in the coming days as the club progresses with the signing process.
