Black Princesses captain Linda Owusu Ansah says Ghana have high hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the first time.
The Black Princesses have qualified for the tournament in Poland for an eighth consecutive edition but have never progressed beyond the group stage.
Ghana will have another opportunity to break that barrier after being drawn alongside Ecuador, France and Korea Republic in Group C.
Ansah, who scored the decisive goal that secured Ghana’s qualification against Uganda, believes the resilience displayed during the qualifiers has given the team confidence ahead of the global tournament.
The midfielder played a key role in the crucial second leg in Kampala, producing a stunning free-kick with 12 minutes remaining to send Ghana through despite playing with a player fewer.
Reflecting on the team’s prospects, Ansah believes the same determination could help the Black Princesses achieve their long-standing objective.
"We have high hopes we can reach the knockout stage this time round because I saw the resilience we showed during the qualifiers and how together we play as a team.
"I feel if we can continue with the same spirit, we can go far in the World Cup."
The Black Princesses will face a challenging group against three strong football nations, but Ansah remains confident that Ghana can compete.
