The Overlord of Ashanti Kingdom, Opemsuo Osei Tutu II has announced his leave following active schedules the past one year. It is due to start in February next month.
Since he returned on April 23, 2025 from a similar break, the Asantehene has maintained a very active schedule, including international trips, mediation and at times, periods away from official duties.
Last Monday, he announced his impending leave to the Asanteman Council.
“With the enstoolment of Mamponghene and Juansahene over, the next hurdle to clear is the first Akwasidae on February 1, 2026.
“Once Akwasidae is cleared, l would take a well deserving rest away from official duties. At least, l will rest the whole of February”, he told the Asanteman Council.
Otumfuo was quick to add that he would not entertain any form of complaints and reports whatsoever during the period of rest.
During his previous travels in 2025, the Asante Kingdom was placed under the care of the Asanteman Nifahene (Mamponghene), Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, while the Kumasi traditional area was managed by the Krontihene (Bantama) Baffuor Owusu Amankwaatia VI.
This time around, when Otumfuo resumes his leave, Asanteman would be under the care of Offinsohene, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, while the Kumasi Traditional area would be taken care of by the Bantamahene.
Following his return in April 2025, the Asantehene resumed mediation efforts to resolve the Bawku chieftaincy conflict, with meetings held at the Manhyia Palace.
He has also been involved in high-level engagements at the UN and the World Bank.
This year, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, had already engaged in state matters, including a historic visit to the Ghana Police Headquarters, Bank of Ghana and interacting with the World Bank regarding developmental initiatives.
